Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
An important official said the incident made him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
